Ed Whitson pitched 8 innings on 3 earned runs, 6 hits, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts to pick up his first victory of the season. San Diego takes game two 7-3.

Montreal jumped out two a fast lead behind two run home runs from Mike Fitzgerald in the 3^rd and Reid Nichols in the top of the 4^th. MON 4-0 They would break the game open in the 7 scoring 4 runs on 3 hits. Dennis Martinez pitched a solid 7 innings giving up 1 earned run, 7 hits, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts for his first win of the season. Montreal takes game three 10-1

San Diego Luis Salazar connected on a 2 run home run in the bottom of the 3^rd for the margin of victory as the home team wins game four 5-1
