Osteen vs Cone
NYM 6, LAD 1
Acquired for Ed Hearn in the offseason the young spot starter David Cone flirted with a no-hitter for 7 innings before Steve Garvey broke it up. Dodgers did nothing offensively. Light hitting SS Raffie Santana (3-4) paced the Amazin offense to victory.
GAME 2
Sutton vs Gooden
LAD 9, NYM 2
LA returned the favor as ace Don Sutton scattered 8 hits and 2 runs for the CG victory. Fresh out of Smithers and not in mid season form, Doc Gooden struggled giving up 6 runs in 4 innings. LA got 3 RBI's from Wes Parker and his inevitable successor Steve Garvey. Parker's BA is now .455.
Dodger Stadium
GAME 3
Darling vs Downing
NYM 4, LAD 3
Southpaw Al Downing went the distance, but was a victim of a Garvey error. The young man can certainly hit, but he doesn't look good at the hot corner. Gary Carter (2-4) knocked in 2 and scored 1. Ron Darling struggled to get through 6, but the pen (Roger McDowell/Randy Myers) held the lead for him.
GAME 4
Fernandez vs T.John
NYM 7, LAD 3
Tommy John gave up 6 runs (2 earned) in 7 innings of frustrating work as 3 Dodger errors sealed his doom. Once again Garvey looked lost at third, but he wasn't the only culprit. Chris Cannizzaro was weak behind the dish and aged veteran Maury Wills booted one at short. NY stole 4 bases off of Cannizzaro. Mex and HoJo hit homers as the Amazin's take 3 of 4 from LA
