Aug 27 - Floyd Youmans vs. Ron Bryant
Bobby Bonds led off the bottom of the 1st with a home run to give the Giants a quick 1-0 lead. In the 2nd, Tim Wallach doubled, Mitch Webster homered and the Expos moved ahead 2-1. Youmans and Bryant stayed locked in until the 5th. Youmans' control started to depart as he walked Dave Rader, Bobby Bonds, and then loaded the bases when Tito Fuentes singled to center. Garry Maddox drew the 3rd walk of the inning to tie the game at 2-2. Willie McCovey hit what looked like an inning-ending DP grounder, but he some how beat the relay to put the Giants up 3-2. From here Bryant got tough and benefited from two DP grounders and a caught stealing to erase any potential runs. The Giants added an insurance run in the 8th to make the final score 4-2.
Aug 28 - Dennis Martinez vs. Tom Bradley
A extra-inning affair was settled when Gary Matthews homered in the bottom of the 13th for a 6-5 Giants win. The Expos jumped all over Tom Bradley with 3 runs in the 1st, including a 2-run home run by Tim Wallach. In the 4th, Expos up 3-1, Martinez faced some two-out difficulties. He hit Bobby Bonds with a pitch, and then Bonds stole 2nd. Tito Fuentes singled him home, 3-2. A pair of walks followed and Ed Goodson's single plated two more to put the Giants up 4-3. Bonds would single in another run in the 6th to make it 5-3. Top of the 8th, a pair of Expo singles chased Bradley and brought in the SF pen. Tim Raines doubled in PH Casey Candale, 5-4 Giants. Andres Galarraga's sacrifice fly sent Mitch Webster home and knotted the score at 5-5...and on to extra innings! The Expos had their chances. Two on, one out in the 10th but Elias Sosa escaped without harm. In the 12th, Mitch Webster was picked off first, and in the 13th Andres Galarraga doubled, Wallach walked, but the run-scoring hit never came. Finally it all came to end end in the 13th when Mathews hit his game-winning blast off Randy St. Claire to give the Giants a 6-5 win.
Aug 29 - Jim Barr vs. Neal Heaton
This was all Expos and Neal Heaton dealt 8 innings of 5-hit ball to hold the Giants to 1 run in an 8-1 Montreal win. Vance Law was the hitting star with a double, home run, and 3 RBI. The Expos put the game away in the 8th with a 4-run outburst, capped off by Mitch Webster's 2-run double.
Aug 30 - Juan Marichal vs. Bob Sebra
Another classic barn-burner, won by the Giants 6-5. Juan Marichal helped his own cause with a 2-run double in the 2nd to go up 3-0. Mitch Webster's 3-run HR in the 4th tied the score at 3-3, and one inning later Andres Galarraga and Vance Law drove home runs to put the Expos up 5-3. Sebra worked late into the night but ran out of gas in the 7th. After Dave Rader drove in a run in the 6th, Garry Mathews' 2-run HR in the 7th gave the Giants a 6-5 lead. Now it was up to Elias Sosa to go as far as he could go. Tim Raines' 1-out double in the 9th marked the end for Sosa and brought Randy Moffitt to the mound. Moffitt got Wallach to ground out and struck out Galarraga to preserve the win for the Giants.
